In 2009 Columbia Forest Products was again able to participate in the The University of Kentucky’s Solar Decathlon entry by supplying our PueBond products as part of the home’s interior design. This fabulous entry by Kentucky presented an optimized living and learning environment that actively engaged the landscape through an integrated design approach. This holistic design motif demonstrated a range of integrated possibilities for site-malleable and contextual solutions for living under the sun in today’s world.
The team’s entry captured and expressed architectural design that blends the beauty, simplicity, and passivity of various elements of historic Kentucky vernacular and local materials with modern active energy-efficient systems and technologies. The end product home was a combination of human-made and natural energy sources controllable by the house inhabitants to create the desired living conditions for all seasons and the almost complete integration of indoor-outdoor living spaces.
